April Updates and Rufina and Chad's Dominican Wedding

Hi everybody. I know it's been a while since my last post from Costa Rica. Well, a lot has happened since then.

This year, 2013, was supposed to be my year of awesomeness. And yes, obviously awesomeness has been happening by the truckload! But, life can't always be truckloads of rainbows and unicorns. That truck basically decided to back up and run over my heart a few times over the past few months. So even though we had an amazing trip through South America, Ryan and I ultimately decided it was best for us to split up. Saying goodbye and letting go of my best friend in this life, someone I loved with all my heart and pictured my future with, has been tough. But it's ok. If fate has something else in store for me, then I am looking forward to finding out what that is!

Another huge life change happened as well. I'm now officially a nomad! I am homeless! I seem to be very excited about this given all the exclamation marks I am using haha! I officially moved out of my apartment this week and I'm living in my old bedroom in my parents house until my next trip. Let me tell you, it's a weird feeling to sleep in my childhood twin bed where my feet hang off the edge and a little pink paisley comforter is keeping me warm at 31 years old.

Cue my internal freak-out: Am I a loser? I just moved back in with my parents. I'm over 30. I'm single now and nobody loves me. But hey, pink comforters are really comfy and warm.... and my parents are awesome. Dad makes sure there is an endless supply of yogurt covered raisins in the snack cupboard (I guess I inherited my love of Bulk Barn from Dad) and there are always home baked cookies, brownies and muffins in Mom's kitchen! This is actually pretty sweet. Maybe I will never leave!

And now back to the sunshine and rainbows... I just got back from an amazing trip to Dominican! We were there to celebrate the wedding of one of my dearest friends from high school, Rufina! She married a guy who's just ok... Chad. Hehe just kidding. They are an amazing couple and some of the best people I know.  As a testament to how awesome they are, there was a grand total of 44 people who traveled down south for the wedding! Everyone was so fun to chill and party with. The wedding was held on the white sand beach, looking out towards the teal blue ocean. It was a beautiful, touching, short and sweet ceremony that attracted quite a crowd, even with some onlookers clad in man-speedos and skimpy bikinis!
Me and Feena!

The happy couple!

In between wedding festivities, partying every night, and lounging on the beach I also was able to acomplish one of my bucket list life goals! I finally did my scuba certification. I got to do 4 open water dives, one of which included a shipwreck! I saw beautiful colourful coral reefs, tons of rays, 2 lionfish, cuttlefish, a baby eel, schools of colourful fish and lots of big silvery fish. It took me a few dives to really get used to it and not be freaked out trying to remember to breathe and look at stuff at the same time, but once I got in on the third dive, I felt comfortable and loved it! The ocean is such a whole other world, with seemingly unlimited possibilities of encounters with amazing creatures. I was lucky to be able to explore it, and I hope I can continue this hobby for a long time to come!

Me as Scuba girl!

It was sad to go home from Dominican, since it was great to meet some new people and see lots of old friends too.

But now I'm getting ready for the next adventure.... tomorrow I'm leaving for South Africa!
